It was February 28, 2016 about 6:30pm and we were wrapping up the closing of Festival of the Arts at Artworks. I was at the front of the store chatting with a couple of our amazing friends of the arts about what a fantastic event it had been. Over 120 community members were present to see the unveiling of the mural, the banner project, and to hear awesome speakers talk about their art journey. It dawned on me that if it hadn’t been for their commitment to Artworks we may not have been standing there. They had donated to the Raise the Roof campaign in a pretty big way and I thanked them again for their commitment.
Having the kind of space we have to celebrate and experience the gift of the arts and humanities is just incredible. New visitors to our community visit Artworks and are just amazed that our little town has this facility. It’s the continued support and commitment from our donors and volunteers that make it happen. And that is one of the many reasons why I love it here, in Big Rapids! The people!
This year our gala is lifting up the city tagline of “You’ll love it Here!” as our theme. I know you have your reasons for loving our community, come and share them at the 2016 Artworks Gala. I know you are going to love the new venue we have chosen for this year; Gary Trimarco Automotive. Gary and Lynn have agreed to host us and help us tranform their space into a arts and humanities celebration.
You will love the food, the music, the people, the venue, the live auction experience, the prizes, the decorations, the drinks, (8) the energy, the excitement, the welcome, the program, the 2016 Patron of the Arts winner, the raffles, the laughter and most of all the opportunity to once again support “Bringing the Arts to Life” for our community (16 reasons)!!.
You are supporting four walls with creativity and opportunity inside. Those four walls make sure there is a place for young people, community members and Hope Network Artists to explore the arts through summer camps, Paris on the Muskegon and other workshops. Where a pottery studio is active many nights of the week with the young and not-so-young, where weekly a group of 10-15 musically inclined men and women sing and play the harmonica (You are my sunshine is my favorite), where twice a week another 10 line dance, where over 55 artists exhibit and sell their art, where over 200 young people can exhibit their work during Art Attack, where people share their gifts of writing and photography, where books are shared and discussed, where any day of the week (well almost) you can stroll through the gift shop and gallery and be taken away, inspired, stress-relieved, where you can buy unique one-of-a-kind gifts, where you can give of yourself as a volunteer.
Artworks… Bringing the Arts to Life…. And so much more.
Join us in celebration of the Arts and Humanities on Friday, May 13th, 2016 6pm.
