“Written for the FOTA brochure……Please check out all that is being offered during Festival of the Arts and if you see any of the FOTA Board members thank them for all of their hard work to bring the arts to our area!”
I was sitting at the corner of Michigan and Maple this summer and city employees were watering the hanging baskets. I thought to myself, “I love living in a town where people care about flowers.” And then I reflected on so many other elements of our community that made me glad I live here. I love living in a town that has a band shell where music is offered throughout the summer. I love living in a town that has so many sculptures. I love living in a town that thought having bulldogs around town was a worthy initiative. I love living in a town that has miles of walkway along the river. I love living in a town where during the month of February, each year, there are art and humanity events each and every day.
I love living in a town, where the people care enough to make all of these things happen. While all of these are supported by the city, which is incredibly important, it is the people, the community, that make them happen. Along with the city, our neighbors raised the money, mowed, painted, sculpted, hammered, marketed, and so much more.
During this month, each time you go to event, remind yourself of what you love about our community. The events, the people, the art, the experiences… go out of your way to share with someone what you loved. During this month, see all the good that is around you. Einstein once said, “There are two ways to live: You can live as if nothing is a miracle; You can live as if everything is a miracle.” This month live as if everything is a miracle, including you.
I love living in a town where people care enough,…….
