Kathy Jones’ creates paintings that exude positive energy.
“I want my paintings to take the viewer away from the negativity of the world emotionally, if only for a short time.”
“My painting process is two-fold. It is first about color. I love color. I constantly experiment with mixing color to create a new combination. I like to think I can hear color. Each color has its own voice. The second part of my process is creating energy and an emotional response in the viewer. I am constantly looking for new ways of using color and strong contrast to express energy and emotion to connect with the viewer.”A Good Summer Day by Joanne Grabinski 2017 original[/caption]Joanne Grabinski is an emerging artist (2011-current) whose art medium is needlepoint. On blank needlepoint canvas, she works with an array of threads made of cotton, silk, wool, soy, synthetic, metallic and blended fibers in stitches/stitch patterns learned from others or of her own design to create one-of-a-kind art works. She especially favors asymmetry, geometric shapes and vertical, horizontal and diagonal stripes. She loves playing with color—some pieces are bright and bold, while others are paler and more subtle. Joanne’s “Color Gone Wild Twice” diptych earned a Top 10 Finalist spot in the 2015 Art Walk Central and “Phoebe’s Sofa” was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2016 Small Pieces Show at Art Reach of MidMichigan. Other recognitions include a duo show, “fiber of life”: TEXTILE EXHIBIT, with Ann Kowaleski at 515 Gallery in Clare MI (3/11-4/26, 2017); two solo shows (CMU’s Park Library, 2012; Art Reach, 2015) and pieces juried into several shows, including the Biennial Fiber Show of the Michigan League of Handweavers (2014, 2016), HATS Off to the Arts (2013, 2015, 2016), and Fiber Arts Network of Michigan Member Show (2016). She also participated in the recent 1 in 4: Caring for Our Children exhibit at 515 Gallery.
