Front Lobby Special Feature
The concept is to celebrate the birthdays of two Grand Rapids icons, the 10th year of Artprize, and the 125th birthday of the Blue Bridge. 10 years ago, Sarah Grant and Stephen Fry created a giant table and chairs that was placed on top of the Blue Bridge, and won 8th place in 2009. Sarah Grant also created a “human-size” model to use as a guide for the construction of the Table and Chairs, which we are displaying at the JW Marriott. Harold Woods created a 13 foot long steel replica of the Blue Bridge, made of 6,000 pieces held together with 14,000 welded connections. His model shows the bridge as a railroad bridge, and displays historically accurate trains. His replica is displayed with Sarah Grant’s model raised on a platform behind it, professionally lit. The entry includes materials on the history of the bridge and the story of the Table & Chairs in the 1st Artprize. The entry will be in view of the actual Blue Bridge, giving visitors an opportunity to view both.
