In 2023, Ferris State University and the City of Big Rapids organized a committee to select works of high artistic merit with the intention of creating placemaking around the cultural assets within the Big Rapids community. The Public Art Collective unifies thirty-four large scale works of art located across the streets of historic downtown Big Rapids, in local parks, and on Ferris State University’s campus as a single core collection of artworks located in Big Rapids, Michigan.
Roxanne Cullen, Rachel M. Foulk, and Carrie Weis co-authored the first-ever guidebook designed to introduce and interpret each work of art in The Public Art Collective. This collection of sculptures, paintings, and mosaics are all works of public art that are freely accessible to everyone. Free copies of the first publication of ‘The Public Art Collective: A Guidebook to Public Art in Big Rapids, Michigan’ are available at Artworks (while supplies last).
