ARTWORKS APPOINTS CO-DIRECTORS TO LEAD ORGANIZATION
APRIL 2, 2024, BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Artworks’ Board of Directors has appointed Stacie Wright as director of operations and Arthur Johnson as director of programming to replace former executive director, Ric Underhile, who retired at the end of March.
“We are extremely grateful for the initiatives that Ric accomplished during his tenure,” commented Lee Kitson, president of the board of directors. Kitson sees Dr. Underhile’s departure as an opportunity for the organization and for the community. “By restructuring the role of executive director into co-director positions we are aligning existing staff talent and skillset with the organization’s strategic plan.”
Stacie Wright has been with the organization since 2018 when she was hired as the gift shop manager. In 2023, Stacie was promoted to associate director to oversee facility operations and rentals. In her new capacity, Wright will continue to manage facility operations with a focus on growth and sustainability. “My colleagues and I share the same vision of growing the organization and serving the community,” stated Wright. “I am excited to step into this role and continue to be a part of the Artworks family.” Stacie also serves as secretary for Big Rapids’ Downtown Business Association and was a 2020 graduate of Leadership Mecosta.
Arthur Johnson joined Artworks in 2021 to manage the organization’s donor database. In 2023, Johnson was promoted to director of creative arts education and community engagement. In his new position, Johnson will continue to oversee education, marketing, and public relations with an expanded role in programming and donor development. “The support Artworks receives from this community makes what we do enjoyable,” commented Johnson. “It’s a gift to work for an organization like Artworks.” Johnson holds a master’s in education from Grand Valley State University and a bachelor’s in fine arts from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.
“Artworks is fortunate to have a dynamic staff of individuals who work well independently and as a team” remarked Dr. Rachel Foulk, president elect of the board of directors. “As an organization dedicated to creative endeavors, it makes sense that we would also be creative and explore innovative ways to operate. I look forward to working with Stacie and Arthur in their new roles.”
