medium: pastels

An award-winning pastel artist whose paintings have focused on landscape. Tom's work has been extensively exhibited throughout Michigan with awards received at the Muskegon Museum of Art, Ann Arbor Art Center, Midland Center for the Arts, Saginaw Art Museum and Lansing Art Gallery. Three paintings were selected to be exhibited at the Michigan Governor's Residence, Lansing.

Tom was honored to be one of four Michigan artists chosen to represent Michigan in Japan as part of “Art from the Lakes”, an artist exchange program with Michigan's Sister State, Shiga Prefecture.

After being an Artist in Residence at the Golden Apple Art Residency in Maine, Tom returned to share his knowledge of pastels in a workshop at the Golden Apple. Other workshops in pastel technique have been conducted at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Holland Area Arts Council and Saginaw Art Museum.

Work has been published in the book “Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes” and in the Pastel Journal magazine.

I feel my mission as a landscape artist is to document both types of this slow impermanence and to provide a chance to return and feel these places again through my paintings.”
