Darrell DeRuiter
Medium:
“I attended Calvin College 1967-1971 majoring in art. Following this time I continued working primarily in the areas of woodcut printmaking and wood sculpture.
I have worked since 1978 as DeRuiter Woodcrafts, producing dimensional wood signs, as well as carving hundreds of bas-relief patterns for bronze and aluminum casting of portraits, governmental, military and institutional emblems and seals. These include 'presidential eagles' in sizes from ten inches to eight feet, carved walnut seals for Valparaiso University, Ottawa county and others, a bronze relief portrait of John Calvin, donor awards and several mantels for Calvin College (now Calvin University).
During these years, I also turned wood for work and play. My current focus is in the area of turned bowls and turned and carved wood. I currently have work in Artplace in Fremont and Artworks in Big Rapids, and have participated in Festival regional exhibitions and the Art Beneath the Bark show.”
